Jack Dempsey Photos

Please use this topic to post your Jack Dempsey photos. I'll leave it stickied so it appears at the top of the posts.

Thanks,
Mike

While your compliments on the photos are really appreciated, text-only posts will be removed after a while to keep the gallery pictures-only. If there is a discussion you do not want to loose, please start it again in a separate thread.

Thanks,
Armadillo

My EBJD Male & Reg. Female w/bg-fry

This is my male Electric Blue Jack Dempsey with his 2nd mate. My blue is about 15 months old and a little over 6". He is in his post spawn colors as is the female. They are currently in a 65 gallon and have been together about a month. Pictures and a video. Enjoy.

here are a few updated photos of my JD's. Ive had one for seven months and the other for about 5 months. They really should be bigger and more colorful than they are now tho...
The male Jack is the first photo and Jill is in the second photo. They may very well be both males for all I know, or females? Any guesses?

Hi Kate,
Jill is definitely a Jill. Jack however is likely a Jackie. I'm not 100% on that because is a little out of focus, but it appears to have allot of blue on the lower gill plate, and not allot of spangling on the upper half of the body, both signs of a female. This is a pic of my regular pair when they were about 6 or 7 mos. old.

If you can post another pic of 'Jack' that give more of a side view, I could give you a more educated guess.

My Proud Parent

I am new to this forum, but not new to fish keeping. The top picture is of one of my 8" JD hovering over the eggs. Notice the white non-fertilized eggs in the flower pots. She goes through and eats all of the dead eggs and moves the fry to a safe pit she creates. She has laid eggs 5 times within this past year. Fortunately they all do not survive or I'd have thousands of JD right now. The second lower photo is of the parents with the babies able to swim to higher levels within the tank. Currently the babies are in a 125G tank. The parents are in a 75G. All are happy. The parents seem busy preping for their 6th set of eggs. Ugh
