| | Fish Lore Newbie | sick jack dempsey help Jack Demsey has a closed Gill ,and the other one is swelling from over working and he hasn't eaten in 4 days Tanks has been set up for 1 year and regular water changes ,I recently added some Comet gold fish from PJ's pets in PICKERING Ontario ,this pet store said Jack Might eat them as food but he must of known they were not well ,My two big Gold feeders developed like a fungus all over their body's ,I tried tank buddies parasite remover but the Feeders were the first to die ,it was horrible to watch them go and I was mad at PJ's Pets ,their was no sign of parasites on the Comets So I moved them ( 8 Comets) in my sword tail tank ,(BIG MISTAKE ) then they developed Ick,that I'm still treating Swords every 24 hrs with Ick Meds and water changes ,the swords are just hanging on to life but Jack is not improving either ,he is just remaining the same ,Sitting on the corner and hiding ,I did watch him for a while out of sight ,that's when I saw him rubbing his closed gill on the rocks on bottom of tank and also scraping gill on upright rock as he swam past ,he wont do it while I'm watching, I just started treating Jacks tank with Ick cure 1 day ago ,hoping that's what he also has ,its hard to see anything on Jack ,just two small round Beige marks on his dorsal fin , any one know what else I can do for Jack Demsey ,(VERY SORRY I DONT HAVE TO MANY SPECKS ON THE TANK I KNOW THAT IS ALSO IMPORTANT ) Last edited by aquarist48; November 9th, 2009 at 06:20 AM.

| | Fish Keeper | Is the JD in the 27 gallon? It's way to small for him which is probably part of the problem. Also, 8 comet goldfish will not fit in a 10 gallon tank or a 27 gallon. They need more like a 150 gallon. |

| | Moderator | Hi pablowdidit...ive moved your post out of someones blog so you can get attention needed.....im sorry your jack is sick
getting the tank parimeters is a must as it sounds like the meds or something else caused a mini cycle.... ammonia/nitrites are what needed asap ....find some prime to do daily water changes in the meantime until you know for sure....meds will kill the cycle also so plan on that as well......feeding jack some extra fresh garlic will help him feel better if you can get him to eat..once he has a few days of water changes, I bet he might be up to eating again...for ICH, just raise the temps to 84 slowly and leave them there for 2 weeks...do 2 gravel vacs a week to get up any ich spores that will fall into the subtrate......good luck with him!! |

| | Fish Keeper | I didn't mean to sound like that, I was just trying to tell you that part of the problem could be the tank size.
Can you give us your ammonia reading?
If I'm not mistaken, pale gills can indicate kidney problems? |

| | Fish Lore Newbie | Hey Maddielynn ,Ye Sorry bout the rudeness ,I'm just a little touchy bin staying up late wit Jack , I just did A Nitrate reading and came up with 20 PPM , and just looking for the other bottle to do Ammonia test but I have been doing regular water changes except for today ,I was at Big Al,s and got Bio Support and added that into his tank ,Jack has the whole 27 Gallon tank to him self and today was the first time he ate chunks of frozen blood worms in like 4 -5 days 'this made me feel better and Jack too I bet ,I told the Guys at the Big Al's what was happening with JD and they said try fixing the water up and see what becomes ,His One gill ,the one that was originally closed started working today but the other gill does not open just slightly ,and the gill that's working looks a little swollen ,with like a whitish tissue protruding in two places, that's all I can say for now but thank you for your help in the mater,Pablowdidit |
