Dither Fish

I got a pair of JD's from a friend a little over a month ago. They've always been shy, but before my friend rescued them, they had been in REALLY POOR conditions. I put two female cons in the JD tank because the cons were getting beat up (literally) in my 75g Malawi tank.

Since I've put the two cons in the tank (about 4 hours ago), the JD's have been coming out A LOT MORE. I've seen them outside their caves more in the last 4 hours than I have in the last two months.

I just thought it was kinda funny because I never thought of cons as dither fish. Mine are usually better at starting trouble than making other fish feel safe

awwwwww im glad they are coming out more!!!!
a dither fish can be any fish added to a quiet tank that wakes up the sleepyheads IMO...the cons are so psychotic, that the dempseys have to come out to see what the heck is going on! LOL also cant believe your cons took a beating from the africans....

I think the JDs will win that fight, when it comes.

I couldn't believe it either, Shawnie. The two pinks in the 55 malawi tank are doing great, so I can't figure out what caused it. The closest thing I can figure out is the breeding pair of OB zebras. They've been raising a bit of a ruckus so that may have something to do with it.

Since I had another tank to put the cons in, I'm happy. Maybe it was fate to bring out the JD's so they can enjoy the chaos that we call our home

The pleco is also getting beat up in there, so he'll end up in the 55 tropical community tank until the opportunity for another 75g comes along.

Jaysee-I'm hoping there isn't a fight. But if there is, I have ANOTHER tank I can put the cons in

I LOVE 'EM! They start trying to eat when the top comes up before I even drop food in. Little piggies I get splashed three times a day.

I have to say, though. I'm VERY glad I have the option of backup plans. All of my babies are precious to me and I want all of them to have an awesome life

I think they're getting beat up on purpose so they can have their own tank They see the empty 29 gallon and the empty 20 gallon and have decided they want to live there. I'm glad they haven't seen upstairs. There's 5 empty tanks sitting up there

When my 55 was empty, I swore my tiger barbs were acting up cause they wanted to be put in the bigger tank. Turned out I need a couple big mature females to control the school.

Hmmmm....that's interesting.

We had toyed with the idea of adding my daughter's 55g Malawi tank and my 75g Malawi tank. She's got a trio of adult socolofi in hers. They have been known to "keep everyone in line".
