cloudyness is usually a bacteria bloom from a mini cycle or an uncycled tank, over feeding or over stocked, or improper filtration are a few reasons...glad your babies are doing better!

I usually run two filters on my tank, but that's part paranoia and part knowledge that I'll be starting other tanks. What type of filter is it? Do you know the GPH? I run 8-10 times the gallon of water per hour on all of my tanks.

your filtration sounds fine.although extra never hurts anything...did you rehome the 3rd jd? and they arent very big yet so I dont think its the filtration issue....do you know your water parimeters? (i know we have been over this but cant remember what was discussed!!)

you can use the edit button when you have back to back posts without any member answering in between camacho

the cloudyness is probably from the bacteria bloom as the tank isnt cycled or is in a mini cycle.....I remember now its normal and will go away in time but the water changes with prime or amquel+ is needed for the safety of the fish ...feed sparingly until that is completed

yea i have been doing 25% water changes everynight and one night ill use prime and the other i will use amquel +..... is it alright if i jump back and forth with these chems? i have been feeding the fish 2 times a day morning and late night..... also can lighting be a factor i have been turning on the light at 9 am (befor i got to work) and turning them off at 1230 am (when i get home and finish my water change) is that too long?

shouldnt be a problem jumping conditioners..but im not positive on that..hopefully another member will know more
as far as your lighting, thats sounds a bit much but if you arent having algae issues(other than your brown diatoms ) to each their own..usually 8-10 hours is good for lighting..again other members may do more ..can you get pics of your jds? id love to see them

0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and 5-10 nitrates.

Hello Camacho. I don't see a problem going back and forth from Prime to Amquel +. Too, I would recommend getting an API (liquid) Master test kit as test strips can be inaccurate and not as reliable. However, when using Amquel + you may still get a reading of ammonia present during the first 24 hours of using it but it won't be toxic to your fish, (when using the API liquid test).

Personally I would like to see a bit more filtration on your tank. Are you using activated carbon? If not I recommend adding some and see if you can tell a difference. Three months is a long time for an algae bloom.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

the cartridges for aquatech filters have carbon in them, if that is what you are using with your filter.
