Tank Size For Dempse

Hay,
Was Wondering If You Guys Think It would be possible to house a single jack dempsey in a 35 gallon tank with the dimensions of 24Lx24Hx14W.
It will have a HOB filter plus An internal Filter.
I Think it will be quite bare.
If not maybe a green terror
i really like the dempsey tho

IMO-No. One JD needs at least 55 gallons. I can't advise on the green terrors.

Hope this helps!

I also agree... JD, no... but on the GT's, I would say only one! As that is not large enough for two to be able to get along in, IMO.

I'd say no on the JD and the GT. This is only a 2 foot tank. I don't think any cichlid that large would be happy.

How about dwarf cichlids? They would do well in there. Rams, Apistos, or kribs would be nice. Or, if you want to go an entirely different direction, a Tanganyikan shell dweller species tank would be cool. I kept ocellatus for a while and loved them.

I agree with harpua, not big enough for either once full grown.

I currently have 11, 2" BGJD in a 35 with 10 Tiger Barbs. This is only a temporary home for the JD's, but they seem to like it. I havea 110 that I am eventualy gonna setup with a 55 gal tank used as a refugium underneath to home a few of the jacks. My plans are 2 pair. If 2 pair don't get along well my 100 will also get setup the same way with another 50 for 1 pair. 2 breeding pair would be awsome, and the refugium tanks would be able to serve as growout tanks.
