pic of new EBJD juvie

Hello everyone....I'm new to this forum, but not new to cichlid keeping. I haven't had a cichlid tank in about 8 years. My husband and I both love cichlids, especially JD's. We used to have a beautiful custom 175 gallon about 7 years ago. Unfortunately we had a devastating fire in our home and lost our tank along with all of our wonderful fish. So I've been keeping the hobby small for a few years, just keeping betta fish.

We recently decided that we will get back into cichlids. We've come to the decision that we will be keeping a JD only tank. Right now I have 3 standard JD's in a 30 gallon. They're only about an inch long. We've ordered a 175 gallon tank and we are waiting for it's arrival. I'm so excited to seriously get back into this hobby. So excited that I just purchased an EBJD from aquabid. He/she is about 1 1/2" long. Once the tank arrives and cycles they will be moving to their permanent home.

Here's a picture of our new addition. One thing I'm not good at is sexing. If anybody can help in that department I would greatly appreciate it.

Welcome to Fishlore!!!

Your EBJD is gorgeous! It's so hard to find nice ones. That is so horrible that you guys lost your tank along with all of your fishies in a fire. I don't know what I would do if that happened to me. I'm glad you are finally getting a cichlid tank going again. A 175 stocked with only JD's will be so pretty!

It was definitely a heart breaking experience. The bitter sweet end to it was even though we lost everything, amazingly all 3 of our cats survived! The inhaled a lot of smoke and were a filthy mess, but none the less they survived and 7 years later they're all sitting on my desk next to me watching me type this very message

I purchased him off Aquabid. There is 1 shop up in Denver that carries EB's, however for a 2" fish they're asking $80. I thought they were nuts. I'm actually getting two of them. Both of these guys were $22 plus $25 shipping. I can't wait until they get here next week.

Not bad really. Still a mighty expensive fish though.
