While I currently have young breeding pairs (4" to 6") in both 30 longs and 45 shows (both have a 36" X 12" footprint), a 40 breeder (36" X 18") is about the minimum for long term housing of a pair. Many will say a 75 gal is needed, but I find it easier to get the proper amount of food to the fry, in 36" tanks, and if your pair is well bonded they'll be fine.

Yeah. the only reason they are going for so much is because they produce the electric blue dempsey's.

I emailed him a couple of questions including this one and just waiting on a reply..He's selling the baby EBJD's so I'm assuming he's getting them from this pair...lol..they are both listed. 5 EBJD for auction and the breeding pair for auction. he had some reputable people buying from him on his feedback so I'm hoping for the best...We'll see what the reply says.

You get about 25% electric blue fry from a blue gene jd X blue gene jd spawn. If you breed a blue jd with a blue gene jd they throw about 50% blue fry. It's a personal decision to buy or sell blue gene's. If it's $400 for 2 fish and that's a big decision to make. Again, $400 for 2 fish. Raising the fry is a large undertaking as well. I think you have to be in it for the hobby and producing a quality electric blue.

I wanted to add this. I see post of people who have purchased blue gene jack dempsey's in the other forums I visit. In their post they seem to always say "was sold to me as a blue gene jack dempsey" . Is there always some doubt of what they actually have? I'm not saying the seller isn't honest but there always seems to be a little doubt. If you buy an electric blue jd or any fish for that matter you know what you have. (except hybrids of course).
