usually takes a few weeks but dont count the babies out yet..they move them so many different times and you just seem to find free swimmers one day when you least expect it!

since seeing the babies early that morning there has been no signs tho, neither parent were guarding anywhere and they both turned pale. the male was being downright nasty to mum and she was hiding behind a plant pot or up by the filter.

thats no fun!! sometimes it will take them a few trys..especially as yours are young, that would be normal...I was hoping things would work out ok! at least you know they are a pair and that part of the guess work is over!!

Sorry about your nerve problems, but that's part of the "Joy" of cichlid breeding. I agree with Shawnie, it usually takes a female a few weeks to fill back up with eggs after a spawn. My Gold Morph JD pair breeds on a 29 day cycle. However, in over 43 years of cichlid keeping, I've learned that nothing is impossible.

I'm still not sure that your fry are gone though. There have been several times that I was sure a spawn was eaten only to see the parents surrounded by a cloud of fry a few days later. Hang in there. If this spawn didn't succeed, they will try again soon enough.

good morning Helen
Sorry to hear that you may have lost the spawn. The little ones are probably just practicing and you know what they say about practise!

as daft as it may sound, i feel guilty. if i hadnt of put them together (i didnt know they bred so easily) they would not of had babies die. i feel bad for days when i lose molly babies. hubby says im too soft lol

awww Helen..
Its just nature's way.. Did you plan on breeding them? Or was it just an outcome of having the pair?

They are fine being the only one of their species in a tank.
