adding another jd

i have 2 juvi jds in a 200litre tank, i have found a stockist which has electric blue jds. i know with malawi cichlids the advice is always add at least 3 then the aggression is spread out with new comers. is it the same with jds or will it be ok to add just one as long as there all roughly the same size?

I dont think the tank is big enough to hold another jack...52 gals is pushing it with your 2 once they grow up ..

i know they will outgrow the tank fairly quickly, thats why im having a 6ft tank made for them. can i add another JD or does it have to be at least 2 because of aggression.

all the jd's ive had, have been in pairs...I dont know how a 3rd man will do..hows the 2 you have? do they hang out constantly? I know mine do......but having a back up plan if it doesnt work is a must ..which you would with the 200 litre...awesome on the bigger tank!! should be a great setup

went to get one this morning and they are tiny, not even an inch. my partner said my 3inch jds will probably eat him so i left the LFS empty handed. now i start my hunt for at least a 2 inch one.

Hi Helen,
EBJDs tend to be more docile than the regular color phase, so they will need to be at least an inch or so larger than your regulars. If there's going to be any bullying going on you want it to be the Expensive one doing the bullying. Also, EBJDs tend to be rather fragile until they reach about 3+". I started out with four from very good stock, fed lots of live and frozen foods, and have a UV Sterilizer on their tank; and I still lost two. If you can find a 3"+ EBJD, its well worth the extra cost. They are great fish with lots of personality.
