| My Dempsey set up Hello all!! I am new to the fishlore forums, but have been visiting fishlore for some time now while setting up my Jack Dempsey tank.
A friend of a friend bought 2 dempsey's and threw them in a community tank. After a few days he decided he hated them and was going to flush them down the toilet. So I relieved him of his jack dempseys and brought them home. I had a 33g tank that was fully cycled that I had plans on planting, but this then became my jack's new home as I looked franticly for a bigger tank. So now a month has gone by and I found a 75 gallon tank, new aquaclear 110 filter, new heater, new aquarium lights(2), tank decorations and stand for $120! It has been cycling now for a week (fishless cycle) So my new home is almost ready for my 2 dempseys. Now I am looking for a cave that will be big enough for them.
The male is a lot bigger than the female. He is about 3 inches already, and she is a little under 2. It almost looks like she is about 1 month behind his growth and colour. He gets a little aggressive around feeding time, he likes to eat first. I stick my hand in the tank and release the cichlid attack pellets slowly and they grab it as it falls from my hand. She will get right in my palm to get her fill before he chases her into the plants. I give them blood worms every couple of days as a treat and look forward to feeding them live foods.
I have been researching these guys here on fishlore since I rescued them and I couldnt be happier. All the info on Jacks was soooo helpful and I am glad I am able to give these guys a good life.
Ill post some pictures of these guys soon. I just wanted to say thanks for all the info and help I found on here and Im sure my 2 dempseys say the same. Cheers!!! |
