Keeping my fingers crossed:

Found someone I could get EBJD's through at a decent enough price to justify getting 10 of them in hopes I get a good looking pair (not worried about the fry).

Won't be able to order anything until the end of the month/beginning of ferbuary but I'm already getting excited After shipping each fish will be right about 17.5 per fish which is half the cost the one LFS who actually stocks them sales for.

I still need to get an order completed for another magnum 350 and a UV Sterilizer as well as a new light strip. On top of that need to also get the plants/driftwood ordered so I can get them planted at least a week prior to the fish being ordered, just to make sure the water stays in check.

In the end, I plan to have 2-3 EBJD's in the tank with either a shoal of 7-9clown loaches or a shoal of 15 or so olive corys and 2-3 gold nugget plecos depending on the L# I can find available.. The LFS stocks the ones that grow upwards of 11+" and I don't want to go that route if I can avoid it.
In the next 2-3 years I'm planning on rehoming my 55g to my grandmothers, barring she's still among us, and moving a 150g or so in to it's place... well technically the couch's place.. the couch can find a new spot in the house

I am quite stoked that things are finally falling in to place

You do realize that if you breed two EBJDs you will not get any fry that survive don't you? Also, if you plan on breeding cichlids you are going to have to get rid of the pleco. They will eat the eggs at night.

Yes I do realize the fry will never survive but a few days past hatching, if the eggs don't end up infertile. That's why there will be plecos and loaches in the tank anyhow, since I'm not worried about eggs/fry I don't have intentions to breed for years if ever. This tank is a show tank for my wife and I, tucked away in our bedroom so we can enjoy it when we're being lazy.

$$$$

Can't order the remaining equipment until february 6th. Tax refund is due then, as well as my student grants. Just the light/filter/UV sterilizer is going to be in the ballpark of $450 not to mention another 175$ for 10 EBJD's and another $100 for some plants. Who knew buying a 75 gallon tank for 50$ would set me back nearly a grand? LOL!!

I plan on growing the EB's out to 3-4" then selling 8 or so to some of the local LFS's, or maybe craigslist for more than I paid for them obviously at their size, so I can recoup some of the initial cost.

I've been waiting for about ... no over a month now. Imagine how pins and needles I am right now

edit:

ohh yea,, I forgot to say. I had issues with my magnum 350 on my 55g and almost lost half my fish because the filter was overheating somehow. I decided to switch to an eheim 2026pro II model.

Basically, their genes are very poor genes. They are already the weak link of the jack dempsey, though many in the hobby are trying to breed a much healthier form of the EBJD so that one day it can breed with another EBJD and be successful at it. Some folks have been working on it for years but it's a very long process. It's why you see few fish in the hobby, and the ones you do see are quite expensive, even as small juveniles. 1-2" go for 35$ in the stores. Adults sell for 200+ on aquabid.

As CH said, they are an extremely beautiful fish, especially once they have grown. It was the only way I could get the wife to jump on board allowing me to pick up the 75g when she saw them.

ps: fixed your link in my quote CH - looks like you tagged ...It inside the url by mistake.
