| My New Electric Blues These little guys arrived this morning, and were harassing me for food within the hour. The two Gold JDs are kids from my Gold pair.

| Thanks for all the kind comments everyone. I've been looking for some really nice EBs for a while now. I plan on starting a breeding project of pairing the Electric Blue Morph with the Gold Morph to see if we can come up with something new. These little guys show allot of promise.
Shaina, in my experience, JDs can have loads of personality. My new little EBs should be eating from my fingers by tomorrow. My Gold kids actually make it difficult to work in their tank, because when I put my hand in, they start swimming between my fingers, and snooping to see what I'm doing. Several of my breeders will jump completely out of the water to try to grab food from my hands. When I go into the room where my 100gal grow out tank is, I often get the feeling of being watched, only to turn around and see seven 4" to 6" JDs with their noses pressed against the front glass trying to get my attention.

Mark | sounds like oscars ...wish my jd's could interact like that....what do you think your project will result in with the golds and eb combo? have you seen this done before? sometime when you can, will you get some pics of your big tanks |

| I really don't know. All searches indicate that no one has accomplished it yet. There are three other people, I know of, in the US that have produced fry from a EB X Gold pairing. All the offspring looked like regular JDs, indicating that the recessive genes are located on different loci, which means that both traits can theoretically be expressed at the same time. Two of the breeders did not raise the fry, and the third is the guy I bought these EBs from. He and I plan on trading some F1 juvies when I get some, so we can try to avoid inbreeding as much as possible. The F2 generation will be the "Holy Grail" so to speak, in that ~6.25% of the fry should visibly display both traits. What I'm hoping for is a Gold background color with lots of the vivid Electric Blue coloration, but at this time its anyone's guess. Some believe that the Gold trait will mask the EB trait. Only time will tell.

Mark | Thanks for the information...they sound like fantastic fish...
And your project makes me a little tempted to leave my 90 empty just in case your breeding project works, lol. But more likely I'll be looking for EBJDs from a decent source. |

| Use your 90 for the EBJDs. I suggest either Yankeebetta, or Tampafishman on AquaBid. My EBJD X Gold Project will take at least 18 to 24 mos. That's far too long to keep a 90gal vacant. I'll keep you updated on my progress, so you'll know when to start cycling a tank for my kids.

Thanks for the names though...I've been eyeing their aquabid sales already...just waiting for my DFS order to arrive with my equipment... |

Can't wait to see how your EB's fair I've gotten a ton of info from Toby on how he does his raising and trying to duplicate that in my new 75g but I'm not aiming to breed I don't think. Wife just wants 2 of the gorgeous blues so that's how it goes
