yeah, that rule of thumb isn't that great, plus you have to account that some of them will probably die straight from the LFS.

For the time being it would be OK... my neons are only 1/2" and the hatchets are 1".. I know the numbers per gall are for full grown..... and at the moment I am working with the right now as I can already see another darn tank on the horizon and I will put that at work..... but so far all seems OK right now I am currently way overstocked in the 20 gal as I have 8 neons, 1 cuckoo catfish, 3 hatchets and 1 glo.... levels are all ok... everyone is more than happy, and hanging out.... and I do more than regular water changes per week... so while they are all small..... Im not worrying about the per gallon rule.... I have another tank on the horizon but this one will go to my studio so it will all balance out.

Angelika - I hate to say it but eight hatchets in a twenty gallon tank even when small is overstocked due to their need for swimming room. Personally I wouldn't add anymore fish until I had a bigger tank to take care of the fish you have now.

Or, take care of current fish, save new fish for later. Hatchets don't last in small numbers - believe me - they drop like flies...

Here's a better arangement:

10gal:
3 Platys

20gal:
8 GloFish
4" left

55gal:
3 angels
Cuckoo syno
8 hatchets
around 15" left

Cool?

Ok Angelika.
I read through the "few questions rolled into 1 post" and I totally aggree that you have this unusal ability, which I find wonderful.
I have little to add, except that I will stay tuned into this thread to experience how you work this around.
It's comforting to hear it's your tank #3 in two months.

3 tanks is not something I anticipated... it all started trying to find a bigger tank for my angel...

No worries. Sounds like a cool way around to have it! And, there is room for more fishies.
