| AAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh! The zoologist in me is dying inside. This thread got posted under 'insects'. OMG OMG OMG. That's like putting a dolphin thread under fish.
Gawd am such a pedant. Poor Sabi. If I was listening to the tidy freak in me, we'd have a section for 'arthopods and such-likes', LOL. This HAS to stop. I promise I'll take my little colored pills from now on. Aaaaaaaand breathe.
Oh, and I hate spiders with all my might. So I'd have to say no, no spider will be a pet under my roof. |

| I don't get that. I wish I wasn't creeped out, but I totally am. I hate that they scuttle. I hate their legs, I hate their sensory hair. I really hate everything about them. Brrrrrr. They totally give me the creeps.
I think they are as remote in their body structure as can get in comparison to humans. I think that's why they creep a lot of people out. You dont' have a shot in of anthropomorphising them. They're just too alien.
I really admire people who don't get creeped out by them, but I just couldn't.
During my studies, we had to do a fair bit of experiments and dissection on different animals. I would NEVER do spiders. I hated it. Am also creeped out by starfish, btw. Maybe I hate the many legs thing. |

| Well spiders are not insects, but I was being facetiously pedantic because, who cares, this is a fish forum.
It's just one of these less known facts I guess, and I like these 'did-you-knows'.
I was really just teasing you for placing it under insects, as it's not like the right subforum exists here anyways. Nor should it, or you would end up with a category for every type of animal there is, LOL.
Sorry I confused you, Sabi. Quote:

| And coming from a south african, that's a brave thing to say. You actually have animals that can kill you in the country side, right? I mean snakes, spiders, lions, etc. We have none of them. The most dangerous thing over here is wild boards, I guess. And they're really rare. Quote:

| Oh honestly, I was being funny. Like you said, it's not like there's an arachnid section!
Oh, and sorry if the lion thing sounded patronising. I really don't want to be one of those people who think that all people who live in Africa go to work by elephant and get eaten by lions on their way to school. But it's just that geographically, you still have predators in your country that are man-killers. I realise that the lions and other big game are in reserves, but they're still there. That was more the point I was making: we have no man-killers in Europe (at least not where am at).
A cobra?! Wow! Quote:

| Oh there was no hard feelings, Sabi. Gawd, these things in writing are sooo open to interpretation, aren't they? No, I thought that maybe you'd found it a bit patronising, which wasn't at all the intention. Absoltely no hard feeling whatsoever. |

| we don't have lions but we have Royal Bengal Tigers in our country in the Sundarbans, they r the biggest cat.....but as their jungles r shrinking like all over the world, sometimes they enter the villages and kill people. Honey gatherers r another victim. |

| That's really interesting, Neville. I had no idea. Habitat destruction must have them on the brink of extiction, I'll bet. |

| The Sundarbans are home to approximately 400 Bengal Tigers as of 2004 One of the largest single population of tigers. These tigers are well-known for the substantial number of people they kill; estimates range from 100-250 people per year. They are the only man-eating tigers left in the world. | They are! They are my sis best-liked wild animals. Mores the pity so many wild animals are going into extinction!
One of the most powerful creatures here is the leopard, they can drag double their weight up into trees to keep it away from scavengers.
This is fast going into wild animal debate, lol! Last edited by Sabi; October 29th, 2007 at 05:57 PM.
