snail like creature
This is in one of my friends tanks, he has no idea what it is, didn't buy it, he thinks it may have hatched from something. He noticed it about a week or 2 ago, but hasn't added anything new in over a month. It doesn't appear to have a shell, and the "ruffles" around it are transparent. Any clue what it is?

i dont know exactly what it is called,
but my boyfriends father had one randomly appear in his tank too.
GET RID OF IT.
It DESTROYED his corals and poisioned the water ect....
They're annoying and really harmful.
b.t.w is your tank reef?

Couldn't tell you, it's one of my hubby's friend's tanks... I told him I would take a pic and try to find out what it was for him. I'm having my hubby call him right now. Thanks!

Yes, he said it was a reef tank. LOL Had to ask him. He's going to get it out. I wonder where they come from if they just all the sudden appear. He said he hadn't gotten anymore live rock for months.

i dont know where it came from, and neither does my boyfriends father.
but i'm glad he's getting it out.
it would munch on and destroy all of his beautiful corals and kill the fish ( i don't know how, he told me it releases some kind of poison. )

We were over at his house last night, and he found another one! No one seems to know what they are or where they come from!

If it's a reef tank, there's probably live rock. The critters probably came from that.
No shell, transparent ruffles, sounds like a type of sea slug.
Some people add them to their tanks, but they're usually considered "advanced" critters, because they have a few potentially devastating abilities (including a toxic self-defense mechanism in some).

I don't understand why it (now they) would suddenly appear tho. He's said that he hasn't had any new live rock in months, if not longer, and he's never had them before a couple weeks ago. It's a mystery!

Maybe they go through a larval stage, or maybe they've only just grown large enough that they've felt safe coming out of the rock.

I just noticed the same creature thing in my tank today. it is eating the algae so I thought it might be a baby sea hare. mine almost looks like a snail with no shell from the bottom side, it even has a little mouth like the snails,. but he is an extremely camouflaged reddish brown little feller. he is yet to hurt anything though so, I don't know what to think.

I think he should take it out of the tank and bring it somewhere to someone who might be able to help him identify it, you know. I would be really interesting to find out WHAT it is exactly.

I recently saw something that looks like a baby snail without a shell or what looks like a shell is starting to form. Is that how a snail grows it's shell? The skin pigments look exactly like the trochus snails I have in my tank and it was just grazing on a rock.
