Dahly, it's stressful for the tank lights to be constantly turned on and off. Fish need a 12-hour day-night cycle just like people do. The purpose of lights are to give the animals and plants a consistent day and night, as well as provide a sort of "background noise", if you know what I mean, for room lights that go on and off, not just for viewing reasons.
Are you sure the fish are hybrids, not just different strains? And if they are either one, won't they tend to be less hardy than the original? Not that it matters, I'm sure you'll do fine with your new fishies.
