Help with Blood Red Parrots

Well this is the second time that my BRPs have laid eggs so I know that I have at least one female. She is guarding and fanning like crazy and there are loads of eggs. I was under the impression that the males were sterile and since she ate the first batch I just figured they were not viable. The eggs in there now have been there for over 24 hours with only a couple of them white the rest are a creamy tan color. The only fish in this tank are two BRPs one of which is definitely a female but I have not clue about the other one. So we just wait and see....and if they do hatch then what

Well there must be something in my water around here lately....babies or eggs everywhere except for angels. That website is very interesting. I guess I will just let them take care of i.hem..as I sit here typing I see her fanning her little heart out. I am sure that is the female because her breeding tube is still out and is huge but those are not the smallest of eggs either. They were both completely orange and she still is but the other one has some darkish brown/black on his tail fin and lower abdomen and his breeding tube has a dark tip to it but is not as big as hers. I did my usual water change and tank maintainance on Monday and they have a varied diet so I have not done anything differently and noticed the eggs early Tuesday morning. Like I said earlier only a couple of white ones so far. I will keep you posted. That would be great to have some baby BRPs LOL....more babies!!!

That is so nice to hear. Best of luck for some fry. Shawnie thanks for the link in post #2. As long as I've had my Bloody Parrots I've never gotten viable eggs Seen a lot of the mating ritual going on recently as well. Keep us posted!

Edit: I'll have room for a few more BR's in a couple of months!

Part of me really wants to take some of those eggs out and try to hatch them....should I or should I not?

IMO I would let the parents do what needs to be done. As tempting as it would be.....
Are you able to take any pictures?

They ate them....for the second time. Well at least I know they are happy. Maybe next time since this is only their second spawn that I know of.

Maybe you'll be lucky next time. How much time passed between spawns SWilkins?

Well yesterday I debated on pulling the eggs and putting them in a 10g with a bubbler. It was a 50/50 tug of war between pulling them and leaving them to nature. Next time, if there is a next time, I am pulling them out!

I would say it has been at least three months since they last spawned.

Now they are back to their goofy playful selves. Swimming all over, bulldozing things around to where they want them and playing with each other again...its like nothing ever happened in there.

You mean with no stretch marks, not the first gray hair, and never worrying again? WOW that would be wonderful. I wanna be one of my fish...they got it made, not a care in the world...except for the "big hand" that visits weekly and disturbs everything they just got fixed the way they wanted it. LOL
