have I got this right?

Hi everyone, I was sitting here just dreaming about the 33 gal. long tank that I will be starting in June, and what I'll do with it. I was considering blood parrot cichlids and then I was going around with the little estimate of 1" of adult fish per gallon, so blood parrots grow up to 12" long so that means I have 24 gallons of the tank stocked, then I was thinking about if I should do anything with the other 9 gallons, maybe some green tiger barbs?, would they get along? am I thinking about the estimate the right way? If I'm right this is the first time I can get the fish I want! please respond, your input would be greatly appreciated!

I have a 55G tank with about 8 Parrots and a tilapia. They parrots fight.. ALOT. Mostly its innocent territorial fights nothing big.

They eat ANYTHING that they can eat.

Plus, the tiger barbs are probally more aggressive than the parrots themselves so i'd say no.

so the two would be well situated in the 33 gal. long? My friend had them and fed them feeder goldfish, is this what you feed them as their primary diet?

Don't feed them feeder fish as their main diet. They get EXTREMELY lazy after eating goldfish. Plus they are semi-aggressive so not all of them would get to eat one. Pluss if you get any bottom feeders, only get plecos as the parrots bully any other ones to death.

I only feed my parrots feeder fish/ Rosy barbs once a week.

Here is the site that i get my pellets to feed them from:

Look for the 1.5mm Cichlid Pellets.

I also referred to this compatibility chart from this very reputable fish store, so I could have any of the fish in community 6 or 7 with the blood parrots (except the tiger barbs)? here's the link: http://elmersaquarium.com/c106communityinfo.htm

WEll, Even considering that, i wouldn't mix parrots with any other fish except Flowerhorns, plecos, or Arowanas (Dragon Fish). OH! Almost forgot Silver Bala sharks would be good as well.

Been there, Done that.

I'm not sure, but these are the fish that i've personally mixed with my parrots sucessfully.

Although, I actually have had 2 flowerhorns breed in a mixed tank and uhh, the parrots got their dinner D:

WOW! that makes me happy that I don't have to fork over the dough for the fluval canister! I will either go with an aquaclear 70 or a whisper 60 (and I always keep two or three corner filters in my tanks in case I need to set up a emergency tank in a jiffy, then I have seeded media, just yank the whole filter out of the tank and throw it in the hospital tank! as simple as that!) thanks for all the help

You might want to add a power head or two.
