A local fish store in Sandy, Utah has a monstrous 24" blood parrot. I own two 2" blood parrots and they look exactly like the one at the store. The owner said his fish is not for sale. I thought blood parrots only grew to about 8" or 10"
Anyone know what could make a blood parrot grow that large?

I have never heard of a blood parrot getting that big, that is insane! I have only heard of them getting 8-10 inches as well. Are you positive that it was a blood parrot?

yep! It's a blood parrot and it's quite a celebrity in Salt Lake City. I went back this morning and confirmed it. I wish I had my camera with me to snap a few shots. Next time I go I will definitely do so, if the owner doesn't mind. Its mouth is almost an inch wide and can suck in large rocks and move them around. I think its growth is due to hormonal imbalances or something along those lines.
