There's a huge difference in posting to jack ones post count and posting to participate in a thread. Whether it be joking back and forth, saying hello or giving advice or encouragement.
Believe me, we've seen the difference.
Personally, I wish the system would subtract one for every post I make. Last edited by Lucy; January 3rd, 2010 at 11:52 AM.

| Unless there is a Grand Prize somewhere, that I haven't heard about, I don't think post count is very important........... |

| It most be very important to some if they told this young man not to post just to be posting... Last edited by Goldwing_Don; January 3rd, 2010 at 12:17 PM.

I go by by quality of post, not quantity.
Edit: Oh, and that was just a friendly reminder not to post just to change from being a fish bum, nothing more. Last edited by Lucy; January 3rd, 2010 at 12:24 PM.

A lot of us read the posts to learn something new and don't reply. I do that fairly often, especially if I know someone will come along soon who knows the answer and can phrase it better than I can and/or is really good at posting the links that really help explain things. |

Edit: Oh, and that was just a friendly reminder not to post just to change from being a fish bum, nothing more. | Some competitive sorts feel the need to be the best in some quantifiable way wherever they are. On forums, these people tend to gravitate toward post count and reputation. Since our forum does not allow the types of maneuvering that facilitate artificial gathering of reputation (withholding information until after reputation has been given, that sort of thing), that leaves post count.
Such action, known as post farming, is bad netiquette. It annoys most forum members and makes the poster look tacky at best. |

| I've been on here for quite some time and I only have about 500 posts. It depends on your interests and the ammount of time you can spend on a computer. It's better to go by rep though. |

| Rainman I agree! (Although from prev experience of reading your posts, anything snail related, I would be inclined to come to you!).
I found it hard to grasp the stars and green boxes myself at first, but then I read up on them too. So I've been there as well, don't feel bad not knowing! |
