If you keep on posting it will change once you hit the post limit. so lets say 1-20 is fishlore newbie then 20-100 would make you a fish bum. Dont post a lot of spam to get you post's up though. Did this analogy help?

Any post counts, though I would imagine spamming just to up your post count would probably be frowned upon.

The title/star system is automated, but the reputation system (i.e. the green boxes under the stars) is used for informative posts/good info.

adding on to what mathas said, the box between the green dot and the caution sign is how you give other members reputation points.

thats how it works BUT... members observed posting very short,nonsensical or back to back posts will have their posts merged or their post counts reduced.
With the reputation squares if you make a really informative post or response people can click the little scale at the bottom(looks like snow flake to me ) and add reputation points. But neg points can be given also but are very seldom given. To check your rep points click settings at teh top then settings again. Does that help?
