How Do I: Add or Edit Aquarium Info

This is a new feature. When asking questions about aquariums it can be very important to get the basics out of the way. We need info such as the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, temp, tank size, inhabitants, etc. before we can make an educated guess as to what's going on with your tank. By completing this section of your profile you're helping the rest of the forum members help you.

I've just set up an area for extra information on our aquariums. This information is under your name in ALL of your posts via a drop down menu. See the drop down menu to the left side of this post under my name, above my avatar image?

You can list tank type, tank size, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph, temp, etc.

To get there:

1. Click on "My Settings" above

2. Click on "Edit Aquarium Info"

3. Fill in your aquarium's information

You now have the fields to input data on up to 3 tanks. Any fields that you leave blank will not show up on the drop down in your posts.

Thanks to the mods for recommending this.

Thank you so much, Mike. This is going to save a lot of time and a lot of fish if we can get it used. It is really nice.

Very good idea, do you include this as a suggestion to folks signing in for the first time?

Done. Good idea to save the usual "what's yer parameters?" question during those desparate pleas for help.

Great idea! Saves the hassle of asking parameters, tank size, and stock for newcomers. Will be awesome once you get the multiple tanks figured out!

Just added the extra fields to input data on up to 3 tanks. I think if we start getting too many tanks listed it could drag down the performance of the forum with all the db calls.

I also changed the look to make it more condensed looking... It was getting really big with the table look when multiple tanks were listed.

Now, we just have to get the members to use it LOL.

Yep, new members see these optional input fields for their main tank when registering. I don't want to make them mandatory fields on registration. They have to go into "Edit Aquarium Info" to add info for tanks 2 and 3.

Ok finished playing and I LIKE IT!! .

Possible suggestion for those with more than 3 tanks: An input field for misc. info where you limit the amount of words entered. That way members can type basic info about their other tanks and it wouldn't/shouldn't drag on the forum's performance.

Personal preferance: IMHO, it should be mandatory as that would show that they have taken the time to put some thought into their tank setup instead of buying the tank (or bowl or jar or vase .... ), plopping in the fish, then a few days later wondering why their fish have gone belly-up.

Eeeewww just thought of this : How about a field asking if the have read about the nitrogen cycle?

Just my thoughts, no offense intended

Good idea HarleyMan - added that as the first question asked and it should show as the last one displayed under tank 1's info in the drop down.
