Re: How Do I: Thank Someone within a Post
It's like the reputation system that many forums have, but without the negative aspect. The names are displayed, of course, so you know who thanked you. And you can see how often a particular person has been thanked.
When I am new to a forum, this kind of system helps me figure out who to listen to for advice and for cues on the ins and outs of that particular forum. Someone with a good reputation (or a bunch of thanks in this case) has been around for awhile and has posted a lot of good information to get that reputation or thanks, so they're probably a good "role-model" for that forum.
