We have either the 100W or the 150W (I forget lol) in our reef tank and it has been great so far. It's only been running for 10-ish weeks, tho, so I can't say much about longevity. I have a Visi-therm Stealth in my 5 gallon tank, and I personally think the Hydor one is easier to adjust the temperature on.
I have the Palm filter on my one gallon tank and it works perfectly. I have been using that blue and white cut-to-size bonded filter pad in it without problems. So you don't really need to order the little filter pads that go with that filter if you don't want to.
I have two Whisper 3i filters, one in each 2.5g mini-bow. The mini-bows came with Whisper 10i filters, but I thought they took up too much room in the 2.5g tank. My b/f's tetra tank has the 10i in it, and he seems to think it is fine. The nice thing about the 10i is that it is all inclusive, whereas the 3i has an external air pump so you have to deal with the air lines and a gang valve. The 10i has 'on board' flow adjusting to high or low. My walmart carries both models and the cartridge refills for both, it's a bummer that yours doesn't.
Edit: I forgot to mention that our Hydor heater also has a little red light to show when it is heating. I like this feature very much and wish the stealths included something like that.
