Need help lowering temp...

First of all specs...

10 gallon fresh water tank.

In corner out of light - Aqua Clear Mini / 10 - Power head 210 - 150watt heater "preset"

I started with the heater that came in the kit... Well it sucked.. First it was 78 then 80 then 82 then 76 then 78 all with very minimal movements of the knob. So I took a heater from one of my old set-ups - 29 gallon tall - which is a 150 watt pre-set heater. So I can dial in the correct temp...

It's only been about 1 day with this heater and it hold the tank at 80 to 82 with out fail.. Problem is I want it to be around 76 to 78 and I can't seem to get the tank down to that temp. I currently have the heater set to 76 degrees positioned sideways about 4 inches from the bottom. I just changed the temp about an hour or two ago but the temp does not seem to be dropping much if at all.

I am now using a high tech thermometer to monitor the temp as well as the stick on glass thing.

Anyone have any experience or advice on this one ?

Re: Need help lowering temp...

all i can maybe do here is is suggest placing a bucket of water near the tank or simply out of the way wait say 24+hrs for it to get to room temp. check the temp of the bucket and then check the temp of the tank. mine is surprisingly high at 29deg C 84 deg F but thats my room temp. we are in or australian summer so i kinda expect it for the now have never seen the heaters turn on!!!! the water will naturally heat itself to room temp the only thing if you want cooler temps is too buy a chiller extremely expensive ( they go for about $600 australian dollars) this will cool your water no probs

Re: Need help lowering temp...

Just an update....

It must be related to the size of the tank and the size of the heater... I turned the heater down to 76 degrees and now the tank is at a constant 77 to 78 degrees. The dials on those things must be super sensitive because I had it set where 78 should have been according to the marks.

Anyway... All is happy now!!
