I just purchased and installed a RENA smart heater for a 35 gallon. The directions suck by the way. My question for you all is; when first installing it and pluging it in is it suppose to be flashing slowly for the first 12 hours. (directions say light on, continuously, means heating up). Does anyone have one of these that knows how they work?

the directions were quite helpful i thought. if the temp of the water is more than 5 degrees off of what the heater is set at then it will blink.

from what I red the flashing indicates that the sensed temperature is different than the set temperature by +/- 5 degrees.

This was on a feature bullet at Foster & Smith's website (under more information):

"•Patented interactive display LED lighting with " Abnormal Temperature" alert that flashes fast when water temperature deviates +/- 5°F from set temperature."
