Problem :( T_T

Hello.

As I have said on some of my posts that I have a large angel, two lavender gouramis, one blue gourami and a small severum. The only bad thing now is that my heater unexpectedly heated up my water up to 40ºC which I believe is 100ºF. And then after that almost ALL of my fishes died the last one to die were my angelfishes and now I've lost my 3 year old angelfish T_T. And the only fishes I have left are my two plecos, and my baby fire mouth cichlid T_T I don't know how my heater did that. So then now I leave the tank lid open, and let the heat escape from the tank and then the next day I came back to my tank from work and now the temperature has gone down to 84ºF again. So now I am content that my water temp is back to normal. Is there anything that I can do to prevent this later on in the future?

oh wow that really sucks!!!!
RIP fishies...

The only thing I can think of is to buy a new high quality heater and keep a close eye on the temp. If that ever happens again and you catch it early floating a bag of ice can hep lower the temp again.

That happened to my bro's roommate's koi once... It turned out that the water evaporated enough to make the heater think it was cooling down. Not fun... Sorry about your losses!!!

Thanks everyone for the advice

I just can't believe that I lost my favorite angel It survived pretty much ALL of the problems in my tank. Although when my fishes died, my plants were somewhat covered with white stuff. And then my Plecos started to clean them out. What is it?

Oh

Well it's being cleaned away by my fishes, so I hope that is okay, and I barely see any right now, just a few on one of my Anubias plants.
