Heater Options

Setting up my new 75gal, going to be freshwater planted.

Looking at heaters, and I'm not sure what to get. My three options are a single Fluval E Series 300W, a single Visi-Therm Stealth 250W, or two Visi-Therm Stealths 150W.

With the Fluval, I've got more than enough wattage for the entire tank, plus a cool digital readout, but it'd run me $60.

With the single Stealth, I'm a little worried about temperature fluctuations, but it'd only cost me $20 (wouldn't buy from DFS).

With the dual stealths, I think I'd get better temperature stability, and I'd be dishing out about $40. I'm going to have two power filters on the tank (one on either side), and with this option I could put a heater under each filter.

So, what do you guys think?

2 stealth 150s gets my vote. I use stealths on almost all of my tanks.

From personal experience, I'd go with the two Marineland Stealth heaters. I use these heaters in my tanks without problems. Two heaters is always better than one, because in case one fails, the other one is always there to back it up. Since you'll have two powerfilters, that's even better, like you mentioned. Positioning heaters under intake tubes is probably the best option.

It's true that the Fluval (by Hagen) has a nifty little temperature warning system, but that's really not necessary unless you don't have a thermometer (which everyone needs).

I like the Stealth because it's unbreakable, safe to touch, and easy to hide, hence the name 'Stealth'. Plants will cover the heater easily. It's also accurate and reliable.

Good Luck, and Happy Fishkeeping!

This thread is pretty old. I'm sure the OP has already purchased a heater.

I closed it. Ken
