To heat or not to heat, that is the...

My apt gets pretty hot and my heater is set on 75 yet it goes from 80-84 depending on what time the day it is (peak of hottest time in the day) Should I not use the heater since the heat warms the tank up? I also have the lights running on for 12 hours from 9 to 9. I have a visi therm stealth heater.

I think it's the outside temp raising the water temp not your heater. Having a stable temp is a good idea, How cool does it get in the evening?? You might be able to unplug it during the day and plug it back in at night. Your heater shouldn't kick on though if the temp rises above 75. Summer can be hard if you live in a hot area. I've heard of some people floating bottles of frozen water in their tank to cool it off.

sometimes visi therms have their temp a little off. Mine does at least and i know a couple other ppl have the same problem. I have the heater at 72-74 and it keeps the temp at 79-81. You can try to re arrange it and play with the temp and see how it goes.

Most heaters have regulators so if you set it at 75 it should stay around there. It must be the ambient temperature. you could try adjusting the dial or just unplugging it during the day.

Most likely the water is that warm from the room temp. If the heater is set on 75, it's not going to kick in until the water drops below that.
