Stealth heater

I put in my new stealth heater today set at about 77 degrees. I checked my tank a few hours later and the temp was just over 80. Is it a faulty heater or what?
I left it in unplugged for about 30 mins when I first put it in.

A lot of heaters can be off a few degrees, I just adjust mine accordingly.
However, keep your eye on it in case it is faulty.

Some of my heaters are off a little.
I have one that is set at 72 but keeps the tank at 79-80, it has been that way for a few years.
Try putting the setting down to 74-75 and see what happens.

Thanks. I turned it down a few degrees and will keep an eye on it.

Good morning. Remember too that if your tank has lights on top they have to be considered an additional heat source. I have my Stealths set on 78 but with the lights on 12 hours a day it stays right at 80 during the summer even with air conditioning on.

Yeah, I hadn't thought about that. I set the heater for 75 and its holding around 78 now so hopefully all is well.

Most of my heaters are off. To me, it's much more important for them to hold the temp steady than for the thermostat to be accurate. Just adjust it accordingly and keep an eye on it.

Hijacking thread

Mine is at 75* but the thermo states 80, and it is 89* outside. Does this have effect? It's been bothering me.
