hiding my heater

Would it be ok if I hid my submersible heater under my gravel? I think it would look alot nicer if it would be ok. Has anyone ever tried this? thanks!

I have not heard of anyone placing their heater actually under their gravel nor have I read in the manuals of my submersible heaters that it is a recommend application. Unless you could contact the manufacture of your heater and get confirmation I would have to advise against it.

It is still easy to hide a submersible heater by keeping it low in the aquarium and simply putting décor in front of it.

*** NOTE ***
Not all submersible heaters can be mounted horizontally. Check your manual first!

In the picture I’ve highlighted my heater otherwise it pretty much out of sight.

Wow I wouldn't be able to notice that without the red showing it.

My tank has a huge filter/heater unit inside the tank and i am in the process of groring plants around it so it will be hidden. maybe that could work?

i think if it was under the gravel the gravel would get all the heat because gravel is a solid so the particles cannot move around to the different parts of the tank (unlike water which is a liquid), hence the heater will over heat because the gravel is absorbing all of the heat and it will probably need replacing (God bless Physics )

It isn't overly noticeable, but I guess I should have also included a non-highlighted picture as well. Also I should have at least mentioned that the Marineland Stealth Shatter Proof Heaters and the Rena Cal Top Light Excel Fully Submersible Heaters can be mounted horizontally.

I don't particularly think that's a good idea... gravel isn't a very good conductor of heat... so you're going to end up with a lot of hot gravel at the bottom, and cold water at the top. Also you can't have convectional currents inside gravel
