Heater size??

hey guys,
got my new tank, but i was just wondering:

How many watts would i need to heat a 260 litre tank (57 Uk gallons, 68 US)
Anyone know the answer?

Also, are two smaller heaters better than one bigger one? And if so, how do i get them to work together, rather than one on overtime and one bareley used?? :/

PLEASE HELP

THANKYOU

Personally I'd use 2 200w for a 68 gallon tank. Maybe even 2 150w. By using 2, should one stop working you have one to fall back on. I try to keep spare EVERYTHING just in case. Too, with 2 heaters in the tank the temp will be more accurate around the tank and helps to avoid cold spots. Set both heaters of the same wattage to the same desired temperature.

ah thankyou
but how do i make sure that they will work TOGETHER rather than both working at different times/tempuratures??

They have their own internal thermostats so when the water around them gets too cold they will switch on when it get to the right temp they will switch off.

You may well find one on and one off because of the temoerature variations in different parts of the tank.

That is why 2 are better than one, it helps prevent there being different temps in different parts of the tank
