My heater is fairly new, i got it with my tank about 2 months ago, it started to get bubbles on the side so i checked it. it had rust on the side and was getting white on it. it seems as if it has broken, what should i do?

My heater in my 55 gal. has something that looks like rust on it, but I think it's a type of algae or fungus. Mine still works just fine though.

where is the 'rust' at on the heater?

what do you mean by broken- does it heat or is the glass cracked?

from my years of forums, the more specific you are the easier it is to be helped

Most algae is brown- red in color and may look like rust. if your heater is glass or plastic then it won't be rust but if its glass and you can see rust on the inside within the heater elements and electronics, then unplug it and replace it immediately because that means water may be getting in somehow.
