heater powerful enough?

I have a 50w heater which came bundled with my juwel rekord 60 (54ltr) so you'd think itd be right for the job. But right from the start ive had to set it to 32c ( the highest setting ) to maintain 26c water temp. Should I upgrade it to 100w or should it be ok? The filter also came bundled so shouldnt affect it to much, and room temp is around 20c average so not like its freezing.

Generally I allow about 1 watt for every litre, so I'd of thought you should be fine with a 50w. Are you sure its working properly? What happens if you set it to 26 degrees?

Itl drop to about 21 22 - just above room temp. The filter outlet is right next to the heater so all I can think is that the waterflow is to fast to be heated properly maybe? Assuming it is working fine ofcourse.

Maybe try moving it to a differant area of the tank, see how that goes. I have to say that I'd expect a 50w heater to cope with 54ltrs easily.

ok ill give that a try. Its just abit annoying when the rekord 60 has a box in the corner to hide all the bits n pieces away neatly n out of view. le sigh lol.

Is the heater in the box as well?

I'd move it out of the box if you can, set it to 26 degrees, and see what happens. You might find that will do the trick.

Hmmm ok. What brand is the heater? Some are more powerful than others.

doesnt say on ot how much water it heats, but does say 80cm, maybe the depth?

Tough one this. By 80cm it probably means the tank length. Could be that it's just not powerful enough. Did it come with the tank?

Did you buy it locally? I'd speak to the people in the store about it. It should heat your tank to the temp you set it at.

yeah, they wont be much use though. when I first got it they thought the filter pump not pumping was normal! Think id better just replacing it, keep this one for emergencies.

I sometimes go away for a few days at a time so wouldnt want anything happening while I was away.

Just a quick update, replaced the 50w heater with 100w and that has no trouble heating the tank.

The 50w is now being used to heat water before water change, but still needs to be set to is highest setting to get just 10litres upto the right temp, so I guess its faulty.

Be interesting to know if anyone else with a juwel rekord 60 has had the same problem or if mine was a one off.
