I started a thread yesterday stating that I was having problems with my heater. Well, I feel like a bit of a dunce but we got it sorted lol.

We turned the heater back on last night before we went to bed, and when we got up this morning, the temperature had risen quite high again, at which point I exploded.

My partner decided to take another look at the heater. At the top which hooks over the back of the tank is like a red cover, sort of like you'd see on a car's brake lights. He removed that cover, and lo and behold, there's the dial for the temperature!

So, we turned it down and now our tank is at the right temperature finally! I can't tell you how relieved I am that we don't have to fiddle around turning the heater on and off for a week till payday.

However, I am annoyed. The instructions that came with the heater had that cover labeled as the Pilot light and didn't mention anything about a dial for the temperature. It would have saved us from frying five fish needlessly had it been labeled correctly.

A pilot light... what does it run off of elecricity or natural gas lol. I cant believe they didnt include the dial settings in the instructions, then again it was TopFin right.... yeah maybe I can believe it lol

I'm glad you got that sorted out... you should call TopFin and tell them they owe you 5 new fish and to make better directions!!

Lucy: Thanks! Me too. Even if I do feel like a dunce. I don't know why I didn't check there before. I guess the whole "Pilot Light" label threw me off.

Clinton: You had the exact same thoughts that I did when I read the words "pilot light" lol. Then I sat scratching my head thinking, "what the heck is a pilot light on a heater anyway??"

I'm not sure what make the heater is, but that can easily be sorted by going to Petcetera and looking at the same package that we bought. Once I find out who it is, I'm definitely emailing them. To not have clear instructions for something like an Aquarium heater can be fatal and they need to know what happened with us. Hopefully they can then make changes to their instructions.

I might have been mixed up.... I thought you had the TopFin heater.... I replied to 2 different heater problem threads and I probably forgot which one was what lol

EDIT : Yep, I mixed up the posts lol... oh well, I would still call whoever made yours and tell them they need to be more informative and that they owe you for 5 fish lol

Clinton: Lol, that's okay. But yep, I agree. I'm going to find out what make that heater is this weekend and then either call them or better yet, write them a scathing email letting them know exactly what I think to their lack of detailed instructions.
