Hi,
I just came across this heater http://www.aquariumguys.com/ethheater2.html its an external heater that connects to the output hose.. its for external filters.. I figured this would be a great way of hiding the heater.. I can keep what I have now as a backup (under the cabinet) .. anybody have this??

sounds like a good idea, and a good price too, but is it more to go wrong, and if you have a failure of your filter, then you also lose your heat, as there will be no circulation.

I know it sounds drastic, but it's a possibility. The old type is tried and tested, unless these things are proven, I wouldn't use it, but on the other hand, somebody has to try them.

Maybe if you have a newish filter it would be ok, I think it's all down to the reliability of the filter pump.
