I'm needing a new heater. I bought a 55 gallon tank (going to be a freshwater tank) and obviously my 50 watt heater (from an old 10 gallon tank) isn't going to cut it. The only heater I've had is a Marineland Visi-Therm Deluxe. My question is, what does everyone think is the best heater brand?

Ooo! I honestly didn't know they made heaters without glass (I'm kinda new at this ). Petsmart's website says they have a 200 watt for up to 55 gallons. I since I have a 55 gallon tank, do you think I should get that one or the next one up?

I agree with Luna, Visa Therm Stealth is a really good relieable heater, holds temp within one degree. A 200 watt would be the minimum for a 55 - I am pretty sure that is what mine is, in my 55g tank and it is fine. Foster & Smith have them on sale right now for around $16 so Petsmart is prob around the same.

We had 2 out of 3 Visi-Therm Deluxe heaters go nuclear on us, but so far haven't had any trouble with the Stealth heaters.
