Changing heater question

Well, I'm changing the heater from my Betta tank to my 15 Gallon community. Any precautions I should take for the health of my Betta? I don't think water cools too fast to put him into shock will it? My other idea was to fill up my 1 Gallon bowl with tank water and put him in that until the tank reaches 79 degrees again. Any suggestions?

So now both tanks will have a heater?

What is your question? If you are getting another heater for your betta tank, that temperature shouldn't drop....I guess I don't understand.

Ok,

Currently, my 15 gallon doesn't have a heater for it. I have a 100 Watt on my 10 gallon, which is rated for a 15 gallon. So I'm putting the heater from the 10 gallon, onto the 15. My question was, what should I do with my Betta that's in the 10 gallon right now? Thanks, and sorry for the misunderstanding,

Cory

Hi Cory,

If what you're doing is just taking the heater out of your 10 gallon betta tank, then there shouldn't be an issue with temp shock for your betta because the water will cool down gradually without a heater. However, you will still need to give your betta a heater, so you'll need to replace the one you're taking out with another one. My gut feel is that the white clouds and danios won't suffer as much as your betta will without the heater, so I'd say to leave the heater in your 10 gallon - as long as your tank isn't overheating with the current heater, you should be fine. Unless your plan is to move your betta into your 15 gallon... which I'd recommend you.. not.. do. Heh.

Ok, I am doing a horrible job at making myself clear

My 10 has a heater, my 15 doesn't
I bought a heater today that's rated for 10 gallons, the one on my ten is rated for 15 or 20.
I want to put the heater FROM the 10 TO the 15, and then put the new heater on the 10, so that both tanks have heaters. I guess I got impatient though, and currently Poe (my Betta) is in a 1 gallon bowl while the water in the 10 gets back up to his preferred temp of 79 Thanks, and sorry if I sounded angry or anything,

Cory

If your 10g is empty of fish, you could change out a gallon or so with slighly warm treated tap water to bring the temp up faster. Then you could float your betta in the tank and start acclimating him.
