Do I need a water heater?

So do i really need one? I'm feeling kind of bad for my new fish because i was a jerk and didn't do any research on this stuff and just bought the fish, rocks, food, and filter and just dumped it all into the tank. I washed the rocks and all that good stuff but i didn't realize i should have at least let the tanks water sit for a few days so the water could get to room temp. I made sure the water wasn't cold but what if it was still to cold for the little guys? Let me know ASAP please! I have a couple little guppies, a black molly, a little tiny water frog, a few snails, and a few tiny shrimp in a tenGal tank....thanks

i would return the fish immedietly, before they all die. until then, please read all u can on the aquarium nitrogen cycle. and yes u need a heater.

until the fish are returned, do daily 25% water changes, and use a water conditioner called "prime" if u can

Yes you should have a heater and thermometer. They need a temp of about 76-78

i suggest taking them back to the pet store, and then getting fish once the tank is cycled

As finmama advised, you need a heater and a thermometer. You will also need to check your water with a test kit.
Please follow this link and read, read, read.

You will be doing yourself and your fish a huge favor.
Best of luck to you.

Definitely use Prime, and put in a heater. You'll want to do 25% water changes every other day until the tank gets cycled. If you can return them all and cycle the tank fishless, that would be best though.

Welcome to Fishlore.
What COBettaCouple said is excellent advice. It may be difficult to get the store to take the fish back, so we should cover other possibilities, as BettaCouple did. Taking the molly back, at the very least, would be a good idea, as mollies get to be kinda big for a 10g tank.
However, reading about The Nitrogen Cycle, doing your water changes, getting a heater, and using Prime (or NovAqua+, or Ultimate, depending on what's available in your area) is important.
Also, if you have any friends who have aquariums, see if you can snag a piece of used filter media from them. Put it in a plastic bag straight from the filter, and keep it in a little bit of treated water (or water from their aquarium), and put it in your filter. If it doesn't fit, feel free to cut it into a size that does. The important part is to get the bacteria into your filter. Borrowing a decoration (particularly a fake plant), or getting a handful of gravel and putting it in a nylon stocking would work, too. You might be able to get something of the sort from the pet store, as well.

Good luck with everything and keep us informed.
