Terrible luck with visi-therm stealth or I'm doing something wrong

The Visi-therm Stealth made a terrible vibrating noise in the Eclipse 3 that I have. I exchanged it for another one that is doing the exact same thing.

On the hood of the tank, it looks like there is a place for a heater to slide in.....so it went in there, suctioned against the side submerged above the little line, with the power cord coming out the backside of the Eclipse where the other cords come out of.

Given this description, am I having really bad luck or am I doing something wrong?

Your heater shouldnt be vibrating at all. There is nothing in the heater to cause this. It may be the cord is sitting on the hood and the filter itself is causing the vibration. I have visi-therm heaters and they never vibrate or make any noise. I cant figure out what can be wrong.. maybe someone else has had this problem?

Ok, it's only vibrating when it's in the Eclipse, and now I'm guessing it's because of a cord or something. Does anyone have this problem or any insight?

if the cord is causing the vibration you may want to try putting a piece of sponge under the cord where it sits on the hood, maybe that will help.

I have 2 Visi-Therm heaters. None of them vibrates. As CapeKate says, it must be the filter causing the vibrations. What else could it be?

I had the exact same problem, Visi-therm Stealth with an Eclipse System Three. The filter never made noise before with a Hydor Theo heater hanging right next to it, but after I swapped the Theo with the Stealth, there would be a loud vibrational noise which happened randomly and lasted for a minute or so when it occurred.

The Stealth apparently has an aluminum cylinder inside, which I believe is interacting in some way with the magnetic field from the filter motor and causing the impeller in the filter intake to spin irregularly. I'm not sure why this only happens randomly and for short periods, instead of constantly; maybe some kind of charge builds up and dissipates.

Anyway, I remounted the Stealth on the left pane of the aquarium, which places a few inches between it and the filter motor. Apparently this is enough since there hasn't been any noise since. The only thing is the appearance; it doesn't really look bad, but I think the Theo was more inconspicuous since it can hang in the back right next to the filter without problems and is also of shorter length.

Well, in the months since originally posting, I have had the same visi-therm heaters. However, I have new tanks now and there has been no problem with excessive noise. It was hard trying to live with it, especially since the tanks are in the room I sleep in.
