Got a visi-therm for a 3 gallon tank today, any advice?

First off, glad it finally came.....now I can uncover the vents in my room and hopefully not have to worry about the fish

The heater is a 25 W and it's in a 3 gallon tank.....are there any not-so-obvious things that would be helpful to know? As of now, my assumptions are put it in, set the temperature, and the heater will keep it within a degree or so of the desired temperature. If I need to know something else, please drop a line here to let me know. Thanks.

Uh oh...had the temp on the heater set on 82, but the water went up to 84......which to trust, the thermometer or thermostat

Thermometer. If there are any questions, go out and buy another thermometer and verify between the two. Never count on the thermostat in a heater to give you the correct temperature.

I have had so many heaters with bad thermostats. Definitely never trust your heater. I keep 2 thermometers on all my tanks, so I can cross reference.

Temp is looking better now But one more question....it seems pretty noisy, is this normal or is there a way to make it be a little more quite?

Your heater is making noise? Never heard of that one before. There really should not be any noise at all from it. If it is making a loud hum or buzz, I would be worried about a bad connection or something inside it.

Yeah I'd be very worried if my heater made any noise at all. There are a lot of noisy things in this hobby. Heaters are not amongst them.

It's not doing it anymore...I'm thinking it was against the filter or something a certain way causing it to vibrate....it's quite now and the temp is (so far) holding steady *knock on wood*

PHEW, sounds good. Sneaky filter. That would make it buzz I'm sure lol. Glad you got it leveled out.

Turns out it is the heater (though it is doing a great job other than the buzzing). I've got a replacement coming, but it won't get here until Wednesday I guess. So I've got the choices of letting my fish get quite a few degrees to cold (not good) or have a heater which I have to worry about (also not good).
