Staghorn Questions!

Hey all,

yesterday my LFS was having a sale so my dad and i got 3 corals and my LFS gave us a staghorn frag for free. They said it may colour up again in my tank so i was wondering if you could answer a question.

How do you get it to colour up again?

Here are 2 pictures of it

I'm not sure, but I think it's a green slimer.

Most SPS like to be in the upper range depending on your lights. What I do for my SPS is I check calcium, KH, and magnesium levels weekly. SPS are mainly made out of calcium and KH so they're very important so most people when they have a mature SPS tank (fully SPS colonies) use calcium reactors. I'm getting one next summer probably

So what I do is:

-upper range is best, (you don't have to if you have strong lights)
-feed them refrigerated liquid formed oyster eggs once a week (or similar)
-water parameters are in tip top shape
-When you put them in your tank, if they're brown and every thing is good, move them to a different location. Leave them for about 3 or 4 days and if they're still brown, move them to another place
-good waterflow

so that's basically what you do to keep SPS growing Once their big, they'll consume a lot of calcium.

LOL. All LFS say this when their coral haven't acclimated (adjusted to new environment) yet. SPS's usually turn brown or lose color (bleach/turn white).
All you can do is make sure your water parameters are good and give it lots of light (slowly... moving the coral from the bottom of the tank to the top, every few days moving it up your live rock). Good luck Matt !

Oh. yeah. Just to let you know if you see algae growing on a coral, some things wrong. (most probably your water parameters) My purple nana died a few months ago when my water parameters was off when I moved my tank.

Just letting you know
