For 65 G. 500W of MH, no Act?
Used to use 2 x 175W HQI 14K/20K (no stiriking difference in coral growth though 20K did little better) w/ 2 x 260W PC, each equipped w/ 10K+act. Total wattage of 870 W on 120G (24" in H). Although growth and coloration was better on top , was decent up to midlevel. Mine was suspended form ceiling about max of 8" from the top of tank.
When I left reefing, T5 wasnt avail yet in US and fragging was just starting to take off.

I miss my corals, There is no med to get rid of the itch not that I want to. Looking at your pics made my itches lot worse. lol

Nice corals & Job well done!!!

Yeah no actinic supplementation. I really think the corals and my large rose anemone like all the light. I will be trying the new ReefLux 20K's in a few months. I'm thinking the tank needs a little more of a blue light. Hope my colors improve.

For propagation, always used long (48")and short in height (12" as in 33G tanks) thus could achieve maximum results w/o MH. On propagation tank, used VHO or PC with VHO as winner over PC as far as SPS are concerned but always had Actinic Lighting

Adding T5 actinic would give me more color options. OK you got me thinking now.

So why don't you get back into sps's ? ORA has some really nice hardy coral these days.

Trying to. Couple of Seahorses my children caught last summer along w/ Fugus and Webb Burr Puffer, 3/4" Dottyback ,and spot fin butterfly (Back to ocean since requires little more tending) got me back in. Since only 30 minutes from where these are found, set up 37 g on same day using water, sand, algae on the rock from ocean. Now have 4 tanks running( already 4 tanks running). My Big Boss isnt happy!!. She think i may go overboard as I used to in todays unstable economy. 100% understandable. Started to join few forum since then. Been a member of Reef Central pretty much from the beginning.
Didnt you see For Sale Posting to fund few tanks going? Trying. Will probably relocate soon and set up 72 Bow (Dried out coralline still on the glass) and 75 G as Reef.20G long will be parent's Reef after I move (mostly softies, LPS, zoa/paly, non photo). Just Began contacting few old friends for free frags for 10 g w/ PC.

I did not mean to have you spend more money, just trying to pass the info.

Here's a few more photos. These were taken with the left MH light off above them. When the light is on, there's just too much glare to take good photos. Hope you enjoy.

Nice extenision of polyps on the middle Acro(?). Is Monti actually touching Acro? Do you see any kind of burn/recession on either corals?
I think this is the tank w/o any Act before. Do you have it on yet?

Very Nice. Your pic is making me itch even more. Time for more Hydrocortisone,LOL!

Thanks, the middle arco I nicknamed the Christmas tree mille. LOL It use to be more green and red. The monti-cap only touches the rock this coral is mounted to. For now it's OK.

I still have no actinic lighting. Using just 2x250 watt 12K MH lights. I have gained growth, but at the cost of color. My acros have faded, especially the red acros. I'm wanting to change to 20K bulbs for the summer hoping the growth spurts continue.
