Micky my male guppie, is being chased constantly by Dave my other guppie. I got 2 new guppies to put in there to hopefully stop the chasing to much which has worked but he is still hiding and not swimming or eating much.
He had finrot when i go him but with Dave's nipping he's got worse even with the treatment happening.
I'll need to move him to the Q-tank but it's late now so that will have to happen tomorrow. I'm very worried about him.

P.S. - here are some pics of him trying to hide from Dave.
do you have any plants or stuff like that to put in there? or a divider or something to give mickey more hiding spots? maybe try taking dave out now for a little bit while you move stuff around, then put him back in and see if he's as bad.
theres plenty of plants in there. Silk plants. I don't know how to rearange it. Theres not enough things in there to move around, just on big ornament in the middle and plants around it.
I suppose i could buy some new stuff to go in there.
I've just constructed a little pen thing for Mickey to be in while he's being treated to stop Dave nipping him and chasing him.
I have this big net that i've never used as its too big to do anything with realy so i balanced it on the top of the tank going accross the tank with the net bit in the water. Then i put some of the gravel in the bottom to keep it down in the water as the flow from the filter kept moving it about. Then i put Mickey in there. He seems to like it. I've had him since Tuesday and I've never seen him swim so much even though he's in a smaller space. I think he know Dave can't get to him so he's happier.
Now that I can see him properly without him hiding i can see his finrot has got worse. I did a water change last night and today i've started treatment with Melafix again. I hope all this is going to help him now that he's not getting chased so often.
With the Net balancing on the top the lid doesn't close properly. Does this matter? And does this plan seem a good one?
Sounds clever to me. He still seems to have some room to move around, not like most isolation units, but could you try to fit something he can hide in in there? Am guessing the whole thing will come crashing down if it's too heavy. Something like a large leaf from a plastic plant or something, that you could fold into some sort of a shelter. It might help with his stress.
Another thing i was wondering about is: isn't it a problem that the whole tank is being treated with meds? Perhaps it's not an issue with that medication. Never used Melafix, but I believe Dave has. Dave? Can healthy fish be harmed by Melafix? Am guessing there is no Q tank or you'd have put him in there, so not much choice. We also had to do that this week but the sick fish died, so we could stop medicating.
The only issue I can think of with the lid is potential risk for fish jumping out, but I have no idea if guppies do that. I don't remember them ever doing it from when I used to have them, but am no specialist guppy owner. Oh, and of course, am hoping you don't have a cat with the open lid!
There is also the long-term issue of aggression. Do you have room for more males for when Mickey is feeling better? Perhaps Dave is concentrating all his aggression on him?
And like Armadillo says, the guppys are going to fight all the time , at least dave is going to chase miley a lot...My two guppy's are always after each other, even in the big tank!!
Hmm good idea baout something to hide under. I might be able to think of something. I'll have a look at the LFS to see if they have anything going cheap there.
The whole tank needs to be treated with meds. They all have finrot. They all had it when i got them. Dave is healing well and the other 2 are ok i think. Mickey is just so much worse than them because of Dave nipping him all the time.
I have a Q-tank but there is nothing in there for hiding etc + I don't think the filter works properly so i don't want to risk the filter not working and making the water bad.
Hmm, I don't think the others will jump out, but you never know realy. Maybe i'll have to work on something so the lid can close. Nope and no cat (except my sister whose name is Catrin and we call her Cat for short. )
I added more males but it didnt make much difference. I think im at the limit with 4 guppies in the 7.5gal. My mum was thinking maybe i should put him in the 15gal when he's better as theres plenty of room in there. What do you think?
Gwenz
P.S. - Will they fight even with more guppies there? oh and btw his name is Mikey
Gwen,
that looks like a good setup and i wonder if you wouldn't be able to use something to securely "clip" that net to the tank on either side.. then you'd have less chance of it falling in. as far as the gups jumping out.. you could wrap a towel around the top where the opening is perhaps?
k i've found a better solution that a towel. see the pic. I put cardboard around the top.
I was thinking that the net wasn't very practical, esspecialy when i do water changes the water won't reach the net. I was thinking, would a breeder net do the same job that i could just float on the surface of the water? I've never seen a breeder net but im guessing it would do the same? what do you think? Does anyone have a pic of a breeder net i could see? thanks. Or is it better just to stick with what i have? I don't think theres much chance of it falling in.

Watch that the cardboard is nowhere near your lights. Heat and cardboard are not a great combination.
Here's a picture of my breeder net (don't mind the messy tank: am trying to keep it cycled fishless). Personally, I like your idea better as he has more room to swim around depending on how you arrange your 'tent', and the oblique, soft lines are more natural to a fish than the rectangular box they'd be in in the breeder net.
Right thanks for the pics. Maybe i should stick with the one i made, but the breeder net looks better. I think I better stick with mine. He seems happy in there, swimming about and eating fine.
