Blue diamond guppy (a little stressed, hence the lack of the vibrant blue color)

Vibrant blue when not stressed of the blue diamonds.

I know this sounds dumb, but it is like she waited until I got to her tank. ( It is my story and I will tell it the way I see it) She usually comes swimming over for breakfast, and she did not, she came around the plant and looked at me, then went back. I poured a cup of coffee and pulled up a chair, and she dropped the first one after about 10 minutes. She dropped the last one just before 200pm.

Pretty neat!

...ahhhh Michelle...I needed to laugh!

Funny isn't it...a few short months ago I knew only bettas, then this "well water" experiment happened and I kinda fell in love with the "subjects"...and now I have 25 fry!!!

Wahoo..that means soon I get another bigger tank to raise babies in....ha, ha!! I've been feeling so stressed out lately, and looking at those tiny things reminds me that " It's just another ordinary miracle today" and makes me smile!!

lol.. it doesn't sound dumb.. i think our guppy momma waited for us to go out. we were in the entire day, except for 2 hours and she picked THEN to drop her fry.

Fancy names?

These are my guppies. I've been doing some readings and people talk about fancy names for their guppies and different strains. I'm sure mine are just ordinary guppies but how do I identify these things? Are there guides out there that I can look at so next time I go to the fish store, I'd know what I'm looking at/for?

Here are my two little guppies, Chip and Dale. Chip is the little red one and Dale is the yellow one. They love playing together and they are very bold. I'm sorry if the pictures aren't that great but it's hard to get a picture of something that won't stay still!

I know that there are different types of fancy guppies(ie. blue tuxedo, etc.) and I don't know if my two are a specific type or not. If they are, can someone tell me what they could be?

Technically, the word you are looking for is "strains", at least as they use it in the Show Guppy world.

You can always for "fancy guppy strains" to find all sorts of listings, but a good first stop is probably http://www.showguppies.com/strains.htm. Those are the basic strains used in the major shows for competitions, and what the major fish stores are probably going to refer to when selling them to hobbyists.

The REAL fun, IMHO, is when you get enough guppies that you can start developing your own strains. I've been breeding for 4 years now, running my own selective breeding program, and it's been a blast pairing up the males and females to try and target specific traits and get certain results out of them. My best result to date (and I need to dig up the picture to show here) has been my "American Guppy" - red, white & blue colored.

Two of my original male guppies

No longer alive, these are two of the original 'base stock' in my breeding line of guppies from nearly four years ago. Nowhere near "show" quality of course - it's all just a hobby, but they were still beautiful boys, as are their many hundreds of descendants.

I'll try to get some new pics of the current guppies, but it's hard to take pictures of individual fish when you have a few hundred in the house
