How long til drop / long pregnancy?

Hi everybody. Quick question. I have a female guppy who is definitely pregnant. I got her probably 6 weeks ago, and I THOUGHT she was pregnant when I got her, but I'm not really sure. She had a very visible gravid spot, but wasn't that large.

As time went on, she got larger and the spot got larger, so I assume she was pregnant when I got her. Like I said, that was 6 weeks ago.

I put her in a breeder box a few days ago because she's gotten to the point where it looks like she's ready to drop.

Here is a picture from today. Apparently I'm absolutely awful at taking pictures of fish, but I think you can tell her general shape from this picture. (This is the best one out of like 30 pictures! )

How long do you guppy experts thing it will be before she drops? It seems very strange to me that she's been pregnant for so long.

Thanks!

yes mine looks almost the same except bigger read posts off 'HELP: My guppy's pregnancy!' does she seem stressed at all? because she wont drop if she is stressed.
Good Luck

as Emily said, stress will screw with a pregnancy's length.

a tip for taking pictures~ get like 10ft away from the tank and zoom in a whole bunch. just remember to be quick tho! also if ur camera has a 'sport' setting, try that because it will take the picture faster (u do learn useful thing in tv prodution! lol) its all about trial and error! good luck!

Thanks guys. I let her back into the tank and still nothing. Who knows.

Thanks for the picture info, too.

Woohoo she's dropping as we speak. Seems pretty slow - 4 in the past 2 hours.

I actually took her out of the box a few days after I made this thread, but when I got home from work today, I noticed she was really squared off, so I put her back in. Just in time, too!

The fry are pretty much just sitting in the bottom of the box. They are moving their "tails" and moving around a little bit, but I read they like to swim to the top of the tank. Obviously they can't do that in my box, but it doesn't seem like they would even if they could.

Wish me luck!

Oh...I doubt I'll get an answer to this in time, but my light is going to go off pretty soon. Should I leave it on for the night or will she continue to drop with it dark?
