Right now, I have a 10 gal. tank with 4 cory catfish, 1 male guppy, 1 female guppy, and a breeder box of about 25-30 guppy fry. (They're too fast to count!) The pet store will take them all of the fry. I am thinking about keeping all males or all females for the future. So, I think my options are:

1) Give the pet store all of the guppy fry, and keep the one male adult and one female adult I have now.

2) Keep one or two of the fry, and give the pet store the rest of the babies and the female.

3) Keep one or two of the fry, and give the pet store the rest of the babies and the male.

I only have the one tank, so I will probably have to give them away in a few weeks, because she will probably be ready to drop again. I don't think I will be able to tell the gender when they are 3 weeks old, correct?

I guess I could keep two, and see what gender they turn out to be, then give away the ones that are males if I want to keep just females, or females if I want to keep just males.

Just wondering what other people would do. Thanks!

guppies need to be stocked 1m to 3-4f ...if not, the lone female will be chased constantly and never left alone....an all male guppy tank in 10g's, is going to be too agressive IMO and wont work ..they will constantly nip at eachother and their tails will look awful after some time....if you are going to keep guppies in a 10g tank, id do all females if your pet store is willing to take the fry....or let mother nature take its course with the fry...or id keep your 1m and keep 3-4 females for him not just the one...

im haveing the same problem too! i dunno which fry to keep, and which to give away O_o? to top it all off, Juice just had 16 more fry, to go with the 12-13 4 month old fry and 2 1 1/2 month old fry! -dies-

anyway, i would go with an all female tank. when i had just males in one tank and one female in the other, the males bothered each other all the time and went gay for each other >.< females can be just a pretty as males and there will be less nipping and fighting. tho only thing, tho: most females are pregnent when u buy them. but u could just get ur money back by selling the fry to the petstore, and maybe even make money!

I have just started a live bearer tank and am going with all females I do not want to deal with the fry(as cute as they are) but I do not have the room for a grow out tank atm So it's all girls for me

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think that I'll do the all female tank. I'll probably bring most of the fry to the pet store this weekend, and let a few of the fry grow a little bigger to see if I can tell the gender. I'll also bring the male back before the female drops again.
