feeding guppy fry- how much, how often?

My guppy fry are about 5 days old. I got the powdered food to feed them. Feeding instructions on the bottle make no sense. It says "feed 6-8 pellets per serving." This is powder, not pellets. The tiny grains of powder are so small, you can hardly see them individually. I've been feeding them a small amount once a day, but in the water, it's really hard to see the powder, so I can't tell how long it's taking them to eat it. I'd be interested to hear what other people do. Is it easy to overfeed or underfeed such tiny fish?

Thanks!

I feed mine very little as they are young then slowly add more when they get older.

If they can digest all the food under 5 mins you need to feed a little bit more

Yes, I feed mines a little pinch twice a day. I let it float on the top and then these little faces come up for their feast!!! I think it's Tetra Min Baby that I use, it's powdered stuff too, and the instructions on food can be a lot of rubbish, I've noticed that on some types too.

Mine which are about a week old are enjoying a mix of crushed flake food and some fry food i got form the LFS which is a liquid that you add a few drops and they eat that.

There are many sources that say feed them from 3-8 times daily but i just feed morning before uni, as soon as i get home then maybe 2 more times before bed time (around 2am for this young night owl) and they seem to be happy and healthy.

Doing that i havent lost any and there always swimming around and some even come to the surface when they see me coming and open the tank lids.

Quick learners!!
I suggest trying what you have and if they eat, they should be fine.

Agreed! My slightly older platy fry now SWARM to the front of the tank when they see someone come within about 1 metre lol They swim right under the feeding flap, begging and begging for food. Oh and when I stick my feeding syringe with brine shrimp in the water, chaos occurs lol they practically attack it as soon as they see it in hopes of getting food!

It really is a personal choice with feeding, i believe. Some people can commit to feeding 6 times a day, others simply can't. I would start with a pinch at a time, around 4 times a day. Watch to see if they consume most of it in under 5 minutes. I also feed mine brine shrimp too, they rip into it like little itty bitty piranhas :P And also my platy fry LOVE a bit of thawed, shelled pea every so often. I don't know if it's the same with guppies, but it's worth a shot.
