| Any Ideas For Good Guppy Tankmates? Hello! I was wondering about some good fish to put in with a guppy. I have one other fish, but I'm seriously not sure what he/she is. I think it's a tetra.... Well, it's kind of clearish orange with black and red fins... Any guess?
So anyways, back to my question. I have a male guppy, named Sunny! He and that... other fish, her name is Lava... live in a ten gallon tank. I have a filter, and have had Sunny for about 8 months, and Lava about 6 months. Sunny is about 1.5 in and so is Lava.
*Headdesk* I just noticed this was in guppy breeding...

| Can you post a pic? It would be best to know what kind of fish Lava is before making recommendations. |

| I don't have any pics and I'm terrible at photographing them. I'll look around on the internet for a fish that looks like her, because there isn't a profile for her on fishlore.
Found it! She's a serpae tetra. Last edited by redtailfreak; February 6th, 2010 at 12:40 PM.

| There isn't very much swim space in a 10 gallon. How about a small school of pygmy cories? |

| Personally, I would return your serpae tetra lava. He needs to be in a school, something that he cannot have in your 10 gallon. Your male guppy would do good with a few ladies (you WILL get fry) And maybe some ottos for the bottom? Also, honey gouramis would be good. They are gentle and beautiful. |

| I think more guppies will quickly overstock your tank - that is why I did not recommend more. You could fit a pair of sparkling gouramis in there. |

| Even though you've had your serpae tetra with your guppy for months, I'd keep a close eye on the tank to see if the other fish (when you add them) have nipped fins. Months and months ago, my dad decided to buy a few serpae tetras. A few weeks later, we started to notice the neon tetras tails looked odd, like they were nipped. We didn't work out the culprit (the serpaes) til one neon had it's whole tail fin eaten away. It was only after this we were told that serpaes have a tendency to be nippers.
I'm not saying this will happen in your tank, but it's just something to watch for Hopefully you have better luck than me with serpae tetras
Sorry if that was a little off-topic, I just thought I'd let you know what to watch for
As for stocking, I second Meenu on not getting more guppies. They breed like rabbits! Even if you only get more males, you could possibly have aggression issues. It's not a given, but just something to keep in mind Sparkling gouramis would look absolutely beautiful, haven't had them myself, but I've seen how pretty they are |

| he may be happy now ,but these fishes(serpae T) are natural schoolers. i recommend you try some more guppies as i dont think there's much space for any new fishes. if not, i suggest you get a pair of kissing gouramis or you could have a fresh water long nose eel. (gotta have a tightly sealed tank for them cuz they are escapists). cya happy to help!! |

| maybe some more guppy buddies? guppies are schooling fish and like to be with their own kind, males or females. small tetras are also good, but u'd need at least 5 so they dont nip the other fish |

| try other livebearers. mollies are excellent. you may end up with some muppy babies but they are cute. I currently have 6 guppies (2 males and 4 females) and a green cory cat. i love my cory cat he's gentle and has really helped with my ammonia problem I had when i had my mollies... Good luck. |
