Colour Changing Guppy

I'm not sure what strain it is because I bought him in a mixed strain tank. For all the strains that was in the tank there were more of them, about 10 atleast but the one I got I can only find one which is odd. nothing similar to any of the other guppies either. I thought that guppy could be unique so I bought him. So far I have not found a guppy with the same colours and patterns. I did find some guppies that has the same body colour and fins but there was no pattern. The guppy I have is a cobra guppy with a shiny light blue colour with black spots and a black edge on the side of the fins.

What I ment by the title is. My guppy's colour gets very intense in a short period of time, especially the black. You can see the difference between 5 hours. I know it's not the light because it's body also changes colour. Along the snake skin pattern it sometimes turn black when usually it's just a normal greenish blue colour. Eventually it starts getting less intense and then it starts getting more intense later on. I have 2 other guppies and they don't do the same thing as this one. I'm not sure if this matters but I don't have any female guppies.

Does anyone have a guppy like this? Also I will get a picture to compare the intensity but it's so hard because he moves to much!

What strain is your guppy? Have you seen one that looks like yours?

I have a half black with a yellow leopard spotted tail that changes color any time he is around another male. He is kinda pale yellow, and the black is grey until another male is around then he starts to color up till his tail gets bright yellow with spots and prety well the rest of his body turns a nice shiney black. He is verry agressive, and kills all male fry as soon as they begin to color up. He is currently in a tank with a 1/2 black female, 5 tuxedo females, and 10 to 12 fry.

My guppy is never aggressive at all and colours up in random times. This is odd.

i used to have a female that did that, her tail would sometimes be all BLACk and then it would be clear.. could it be genetics?

guppies do change colour when they are displaying to females (maybe out of jelousy) i believe that i mainly see in in the darker colours of fish rather than the lighter, the lighter ones do get more intence also.

That's what I thought but my tank doesn't have any females guppies. (or female mollies)

yes but if that male has forgotten what a female is he will display to anything sometimes at feeding time too. it is nothing really that great most fish do it but you need to pay alot of attention to notice

i reckon its anoying when you buy a fish at the pet shop which you didnt relise was displaying and then you get it home and its not so colourful.

enjoy you fish
